A new external hard drive...and hours of joy trying to get it to work!
Sooo....I finally got a portable external hard drive - the first one I've ever owned. 60GB, perfect size for backing up all the personal files I have on the computer (several times). And of course - since I'm using Vista (which of course is not yet fully supported by most manufacturers), it was a pain in the neck to get installed. In order to get it to work, I, for some reason, have to plug it into a USB 1.1 Hub. Ugh - dreadfully slow. But - it does the job. And no, the software supplied doesn't fully work (it can't find the hard drive), so I'm using the built-in Windows Backup and Restore program. Works fine for me!
And the funny part about it - while trying to get it to recognize and work - it beeped constantly for an hour like a dumptruck stuck in reverse. Scott finally gave up and went to bed. 5 minutes later - it was up and running!
Geekfully yours,

The site is looking pretty spiffy. Ready for the prime time roll out?
OK - so let me get this straight - Windows Vista, compatability problems, malfunctioning software, USB 1.1, beeping like a dump truck - and we are supposed to be happy with this? Welcome to the wonderful world of Microsoft
